Transport in rural areas is always a burning issue and transport difficulties are named time and time again as the cause of rural isolation.
For several years EDRCN worked with a range of other agencies and voluntary groups in Down District to develop a community led transport scheme for the area. The consortium know as Down District Accessible Transport was awarded funding from the DoE Rural Transport Fund in 1999 to buy minibuses and continues to go from strength to strength.
The Network plays its part in the management and promotion of this community transport scheme.
The Network was involved in a similar consortium for the Ards area which was led by the Ulster Community Health Trust and also received funding from the RTF in 1999.
The Network also has contact with Age Concern Transport Scheme which is the third community transport scheme in the area.
