Down Diversity in Action Forum

December 09 has been a month for action and one these included the launch of Down Diversity in Action Forum's Strategic Plan, attended by Chair of Down District Council, Cllr W Dick and Duncan Morrow, CEO of Community Relations Council, both endorsing the work of the Forum to date. This is a multi-agency forum operating under a Partnership Agreement and is made up of 18 statutory, community and voluntary organisations: ASCERT, Down District Council, Down Community Safety Partnership, Gays and Lesbians Across Down, Down CAB, Down District Volunteer Centre, EDRCN, Libraries NI, NIHE, PSNI, SERC, SEHSCT, NI Court Service, NIFRS and Down DPP.

The Forum is Chaired by Marta Majer, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, who speaking at the launch stated "The members of the Forum commit themselves to work in partnership and as individual organisations promoting good relations based on the principles of equity, diversity and interdependence."

Mission Statement

'Down Diversity in Action Forum is committed to respecting difference and valuing the individual regardless of background while creating opportunities that embrace diversity for the benefit of all.'

Aims

1. Adopt a strategic approach to identify real needs in respect of addressing diversity. 2. Maximise resources and opportunities to promote equity, diversity and interdependence. 3. Develop communication channels to encourage people to live, learn, work and play together. 4. Embrace a partnership approach encompassing all sectors of the community to create a shared future for all residents of Down through positive action.5. Build the capacity of local groups to articulate their needs and to embrace diversity through cultural activities.
